is there a way to disable the 'background stuff' in ad aware & SAS?

i have both installed, but i thought both only worked on demand/manual

i also have spybot s&d (t-timer sux, so its disabled), malwarebytes, spywareblaster, avast antivirus, windows defender, windows firewall.

should i uninstall any of these? i originally asked on the forums if i would encounter conflicts before installing SAS & malwarebytes, i was given the 'thumbs up' to go ahead & install, so i did.

i don't notice any problems yet, other then when i load up ff3 to surf, it takes a few seconds before it loads up.

not sure if FF3 slow started before or after i installed SAS & malwarebytes

I'm not familiar with Malwarebytes so I'm not sure if it's an active spyware scanner or a manual one.

As far as I know, SuperAntiSpyware is a manual spyware scanner and shouldn't be causing any problems if it's not running.

Which Ad-Aware are you using? The free one or the one you pay for? The free one is a manual scanner and shouldn't have anything running in background. I stopped using Ad-Aware awhile ago when it got real bloated.

I like SpywareBlaster a lot and recommend it to everyone I know. It's a spyware blocker and really doesn't run in background...it sets up your browser(s) so you don't get junk from suspect web sites. Since I started using SpywareBlaster none of my computers have gotten hit with anything really malicious. I do manual update checks at least 3 times a week.

Even the free versions of SAS and Ad-Aware install services, as does Windows Defender. Malwarebytes is pure manual.
