A relative of mine has an HP officejet K550 that works perfect on one PC, but when I switch it to another PC - it suddenly doesn't print Cyan (black, yellow and magenta are fine tho). I switch the printer back to the other PC and it works fine again.

My relative contacted HP looking for support and they sent him a new printer, but the same issue remains.

So it sounds like a software issue, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling three diffent drivers, but the printer still refuses to print cyan on the one PC.

Anyone have an idea how to solve this?

How are you trying to print? Are you printing a test page?

Did you install just the driver, or the driver and software?

Did the printer work fine before?

1) How are you trying to print? Are you printing a test page?

2) Did you install just the driver, or the driver and software?

3) Did the printer work fine before?

1) I try printing a test page and a jpeg. In both cases, cyan is missing when printed on the one PC.

2) I installed the standard HP driver and software from the CD and downloaded the Driver install package from the HP website. Same results for both situations.

3) Printer use to work fine on both PC. Now it just doesn't print cyan on the one PC - but works fine on the other PC.

Thanks,

Have you tried a system restore to before the problem started?

System restore really isn't an option. To what I've been told, the issue has existed for quite some time, so I'm not sure when to restore to.

He's managed to print normaly using his old PC, but he really wants to retire it and have his newer PC to do the job - unfortunately, its just refusing to do so.

I'm 100% confident that this is merely a software issue, but I'm unsure what setting might trigger this behavour. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Well I spent a couple of hours trying to solve the issue, but I resorted to test the printer on the other PC to verify if it does in fact work. Well, it doesn't! So I installed the drivers on my laptop and the printer doesn't print right on there either.

So, lesson learned! I shouldn't have beleived the back storey and verified this myself before I posted the problem. So, all appologies for wasting your time.

We're contacting HP to get a replacement as it's stil under warranty.

Thanks again.

LOL.

I'm glad you figured it out. At least I don't feel lost on this one anymore.

Are you sure it's not just a empty or defective cartridge?

Yeah, I'm sure. The test print said the existing cyan cartridge was 77% full. Regardless, I replaced it with a new cyan cartridge and the test print reported 99% full, but it still resuses to print cyan.

Since he purchased the three year extended warranty, I'm just gonna send the unit back and request a replacement.

Thanks again,
