Win XP

PC had Micro AV virus/malware.
Used the tool here to remove...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/remove-micro-antivirus-2009
That is gone but I have more problems.
I installed AVG but could not update.
Updated with files off of their site.
Ran it and found 24 more types of infections.
Installed Adaware but also would not update.
Ran it and found 289 pieces of junk.
I had to install Firefox because IE is missing from the computer as a shortcut anywhere.
I can go to My Computer and open it with the address bar.
When I go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer ...My Documents opens up. This is another problem.
This computer has been online for a month with NO anti-virus or other preventative programs on it to protect it.
Except for the Firewall.
When I first tried to run AVG it would start for about thirty seconds then fail, but act like it was still running.
Finally got it to run after a few reboots, although it still seems slow.
I would like to know if you want me to run HiJack This and post it??
I can get online , but when I try to go to Trend Micro House Call thru Firefox it tells me that
I cannot establish a connection.
I have this pc on a home network and am able to go there with my other computer just fine.
I help people with their pcs and would like to get this one fixed as well.
I am not going to install any more anti-spyware programs until I hear from you good folks there at PCMech.
Please let me know what my next move is.
Thanks,
Dick

OOOOOPS!

Please let me know what my next move is.

Save your data files and reformat it. If you refuse to give up, try Malwarebytes next. When you are done, you will probably have to do a repair install anyway, you might as well get a fresh start now.

I agree, in this case a reformat and start anew is the best bet. For protection, windows firewall will work, AVG for anti-virus and spyware plus download Malwarebytes (free also) as glc suggested and run it once a week.

I gave the pc back to the owner with the recommendation to reinstall.
I am done with that one for now.
