After upgrading from AVG 7.5 to AVG 8, I've noticed a fairly significant increase in resources AVG 8 requires.

Is AVG 8 still the 'preferred' client of most people here or have you jumped ship for something else (more lightweight)? If so, what?

I'm using Avast (yes, finally switched from NAV  :) ) on my main two boxes and have been very satisfied. I have AVG, but it's 7.5 and on my laptop which I never use so I can't compare it to v8.

I've continued using AVG 8.0 on all my machines as well as all my customer's. At startup, several AVG services run for a few minutes, like AVG update and the scanner. Once it settles down, I haven't noticed any difference to 7.5. Only issue that bugs me is the tendency for the Update to try to check home before the network is loaded. This causes a "could not connect" balloon which I find annoying.

Yeah, I noticed that too...wish they would fix it.

But, other than that, no complaints here.

AVG 8 also has anti-spyware bundled with it, so that might make it use more resources than 7.5.

I experienced the same bloat so i switched to Avira for my customers. So far it's done it's job.
