The security updates on patch Tuesday took out ZA.
The only thing it could do was lock my internet access.

I uninstalled the updates and re-installed ZA and now I have my internet back.
Anyone else in the same fix will have to do the same.
Oh yes, let the guys in Redmond know about this.

Haven't switched from ZAP yet (thinking of trying Comodo since my ZAP subscription is up) so that's an excellent tip! Thanks :)

My browser settings got whacked tonight after I did the update too. Maxthon was working fine and after the updates installed, they said I needed to reboot, so I did. Upon opening Maxthon again after the reboot, all of my toolbars and buttons were in the wrong places and using different skins. It didn't bother my Favorites settings, but some of the options in Maxthon, like how new tabs are opened and such, were really jumbled. Took me a good hour to get everything set back the way it was, and I still feel like my buttons and address bar don't look quite right. I don't know for SURE that Mickeysoft's updates are to blame, but that's the only thing I did before it went all screwy.

At the moment I'm conducting an experiment, re-downloading and re-installing the Tuesday patch.

The ZA forum had another possible culprit with Tuesday's AVG update removing files it shouldn't after a false positive, corrected on Wednesday, and also causing ZA to lock internet access until re-installed.

Windows download installed and ZA fuctions .
Verdict, the Windows patch is absolved and the the AVG update was the culprit.
The mix up of cause and effect was because I did both at the same time, more or less.

Interesting to know I wasn't the only one having issues. Windows Update was screwing around with my browsers too. Seems normal today.

More on the Windows update.

I don't have any tool bars but many customers do, guess who got their settings "whacked" ?

I've had an interesting evening, if AVG didn't get you then it seems "patch Tuesday" would.

The Windows Secret newsletter I got today said that MS208-063 was the culprit behind all the Zone Alarm issues. It advises and I quote "Don't update XP until a ZoneAlarm refresh is available."

Microsoft can't afford a computer running ZA to test patches on?
Amazing, just amazing.

To be fair it isn't only Microsoft that messes up ( are you reading AVG ?) but this is not good for customer relations and it's not going to help hold them with Linux or Macs.

Yep, that "My way or the Highway" attitude keeps costing them and helping Mac and Linux gain ground.
