I currently have a Linksys wired router. I connect an ethernet cable from an HP All In One printer to this router. I recently upgraded my computer considerably and the system worked fine for a while.

Now although it still prints all right from the computer it no longer will scan a document from the computer. I cannot scan from the computer unless I bypass the router and install a USB cable from the printer directly to the computer.

I have been thinking that perhaps the upgrades I incorporated might require an improved performance gigabit router.

If you agree what make and model router would you recommend that I install? Price is no object within reason.

- Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX 16GB memory
- Corsair memory 4GB

You don't need a new router, you just need to uninstall and reinstall the AIO. I would highly recommend you set the AIO to a static IP address.

GLC - I tried reinstalling the AIO several times and it did not help. Any other suggestions?

Which exact AIO and what version of Windows? Did you set the AIO to a static IP?

It is a HP Photosmart All In One Printer model C5180. My operating system is XP Home. I am not very familiar with the static IP address. I used the one the site gave me that keeps appearing on the screen. I don't know if that is static or not.

HP calls it "Manual IP" and I recommend you do that. I'd use 192.168.1.200, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and default gateway 192.168.1.1. The manual should address how to do this.

Have you gone through all the troubleshooting documents on HP's site yet?

I have been talking to HP technical support for 4 days in a row now, about 3 hours each day. The last supervisory technician told me it must be the router and I should contact Linksys for help. i contacted Linksys and they said it wasn't the router. I made another call to HP and asked for a call back which they never made.

I was hoping that tjhe forum might be a better source of help. It is a real mystery.

It can't be the router unless you have some obscure firewall setting in there that's blocking it. One would think if this were the case, it wouldn't print either.

Please try the manual IP setup. It's a lot simpler in a lot of cases because it doesn't have to keep translating the current IP as assigned by DHCP to a port name, it will use a standard TCP/IP port.
