I keep getting this Antivirus 2009 program that is trying to pretend that it is an antivirus, but in reality it is slowing down my computer!

Every single anti-virus i try to install (Norton, AVG, Avira, etc) is getting blocked from autoupdating due to this MENACE!

I:

a.) used ctrl+alt+delete and deleted all antivirus 2009 applications
b.) deleted the antivirus 2009 folder in program files
c.) ran ccleaner on both my computer and my registry.

these three things were supposed to get rid of antivirus 2009, however, i notice it keeps trying to hijack my internet explorer (i dont use IE, I use firefox, but my family insists on using IE for some unknown reason).

So basically, whenever I download anti-virus software on trial or for free, I think Anti-virus 2009 is blocking my internet connection so that I cannot download the proper database files to get rid of it. I also notice that it hijacks my browser so that any time I visit google or whatever it recommends I *DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL* Anti-virus 2009. I know this is a (edited by admin) program. HOW DO I GET RID OF IT? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

Id like to add that I used ctrl+alt+delete, went to processes, and eliminated anything remotely related to antivirus 2009........ I didnt just try to get rid of the applications.

Please help with this ridiculous problem!

Thanks!!!!!!

You can remove it manually, here are the instructions do this only If you are comfortable about editing your registry. http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/antivirus2009-antivirus-2009-removal-instructions/spyware-removal

Then keep your AV software updated, and run a good spyware / malware scanner, like spybot search and destroy and malware bytes

Another trick to protect your computer from this type of problem is to run a modified host file, you read about it before installing

I have seen MalwareBytes can remove it.

I got it once and removed it successfully. One has to think why someone continues to get infected. Maybe try different browsing habits. Maybe stay off the adult sites. Just my 2 cents worth.

Both Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware will remove that infection: full system scans are required. Just make sure you clean out all junk/temp files too: CCleaner is a very useful tool for this task just make sure you untick the box for not cleaning junk files less than 48 hours old.
