i shoot american trap, skeet, and 5 stand for my countys 4H shotgun team. to get started obviously you need a gun, ammo and a range to shoot at. also it would be good to know the rules.
are you talkin about sporting clays in general, or the actually game?

shooting sports in general. I have shotgunned a couple of times way back in my youth and found it interesting and have some additional free time (and my repaired knee isn't up to golfing on a regular basis) and was wondering what it takes, how much it costs, both the startup (I assume a firearm but also what else?) and the ongoing costs (ammo etc).

already have googled but the information that I get is either too generic or too specific and assumes knowledge that I don't have.
Hence, I asked here as a start - I trust the answers I get here vs some other sites...regardless of the topic

You can look in the Yellow Page phone book under Guns - and then look for outdoor shooting ranges.

I go to the local range, they have 5 throwers set up for people to use. I usually pay about $21 for a box of 100rds of 20ga at Walmart, and about $8.99 for 100+ box of clays. Box of 100 shells and clays lasts two people a couple hours shooting one at a time, it goes faster if you do doubles, of course. It lasts a lot longer than shooting 100 handgun rounds from my SW99 and is, I think, more fun. Cheapest way to get out and spend some time at the range is with a .22 rifle. Pick up a box of 500 and you could spend a long time out there for not much $$.
