I have a Delll Inspiron 6000 laptop that I would like to disable the Touchpad on. In the Control Panel I can uninstall the driver, but would rather not do that. The Bios does not offer the option. I'm running XP Pro, if that's any help.
I've got an older Inspiron at home where the moouse just heads up to the corner of the screen for no apperant reason, and the USB mouse will only do a tug of war with it trying to get it back to normal.
Ideally, I'd like to disable on both laptops. Thanks in advance for the help.

Device Manager has a "Disable" option;)

See if their is a taskbar icon on the lower right corner. Try touching the touchpad and moving your finger on it and see if one of the icons do anything. If you see an icon with an animation on it when you touch the touchpad than double click that icon. Typically you should be able to disable the touchpad in there.

My my Alienware notebook and my wifes Dell XPS M1730 notebook has the same looking icon for the touchpad.

Thanks for the quick replies.
In the Device Manager, the Device Usage section is blank for the Alps Touch Pad. For the USB mouse I have attached, the same section gives me a choice of enabling or disabling.
No icon for the touch pad on the task bar, but the older unit at home has one I believe. I'll check it out this evening.
Thanks, Jim
