Quiet Sound problem

I have this old Computer and the sound is barely loud enough to hear. It has windows 2000 and a AMD 1.4ghz socket A processor. The sound is on the motherboard and the device manager says everything is functioning correctly. I'm all out of ideas???

Did you install the newest drivers?

Have you tried to turn the volume up? Have you turned the volume up in the program you're using as well?

All the volumes are all the way up. The sound is barely loud enough to hear, when these speakers are used on another PC the sound is much louder. I will see if there is a new driver for the sound.

Are you using unpowered (passive) speakers by chance? Did you once have good volume and now it's gone?
