External Enclosure: HDD size support

I am looking at external enclosures for SATA II 3.5" HDD's. If the description says it supports up to 750GB HDD's (arbitrary number) will it really not support anything larger. i.e. 1TB HDD's. Same thing for any size really. If so what is limiting it. Seems like an external enlosure just provides power and a chassis, and a connection to a computer.

Not sure I've seen that on an external before.

It's a good design, and comes with a modified version of acronis.

I have confirmed that the Apricorn DTS enclosure will support a 1.5 TB drive. Just built one last week.

When I see these specs on external enclosures it makes me think that when the product originally came out the largest HDD at the time is what they wrote into the spec sheet. I just don't see what would limit support as long as the dimension of the HDD fits the dimension of the enclosure and the connection types match.

There can be size limitations in the interface card.
