Hi

I am looking to start upgrade my current computer as far as I can before having to upgrade the mobo and CPU. Can anyone tell me whether S-ATA drives would work on my Abit IC7 motherboard or not?

Bearing in mind the motherboard must be 4 years old - way before 3GB/s S-ATA was around. Would it just work at the old transfer rate or would it not work at all?!

Cheers

Jolyon

Yes, if your motherboard has the slower SATA ports, newer drives will default to the lower transfer rate. In the unlikely event of any problems, most drives have a jumper setting to force the slower speed. It's unlikely you'd notice a difference between the two, at any rate.

That board supports 1.5 SATA speeds only, not 3.0.

Meaning, you'll probably have to put the 1.5 jumper on any SATA drive you attach. Otherwise, it should work fine.
