Hi, I have a general question re sound cards. Basically what I want to do is to be able to record simultaneously from a microphone and from Line-In as inputs into a sound card.

I have a socket 478 P4 motherboard with built-in sound module (Avance AC97 Audio), and I am running XP Pro SP2. Under 'Recording Control' under 'Audio Device Properties' it only allows selection of one input at a time for recording, so, for example, if Line-In is selected then Mic is automatically de-selected (and vice-versa). I have a digital piano connected to Line-In (blue socket) and a microphone connected to the red MIC socket. Each of these can be recorded independently on its own, but I cannot get the two to record at the same time.

What type of sound card will provide this type of functionality ? I am unsure what to buy.

(I am using the built-in XP 'Sound Recorder' program to make the recordings).

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I think some professional recording software might do it, but I'm not sure.

What you can do is get a small audio mixer for about $40-$50, and combine the two outputs that way.

Thanks for info - I will look into that - time to learn about audio technology I think :)

I've had good success with behringer and mackie sound mixers/boards
