The drive in the computer I am current using is an IDE. I have an old Ultra ATA drive from my last computer that crashed that I would like to salvage a few files from. I tried to install it as a second drive in my current computer but could not since the cables are incompatible. Then I noticed that my CD drive uses the same cable so I connected the cable to the Ultra ATA drive and powered up and I got a CMOS message saying the new hard drive is incompatible then asking if I want to reformat it. I answered no, shut down the computer then removed the drive.
Question: Is there an easy way I can salvage these files from the old Ultra ATA drive without installing a new cable (?), or taking the drive to a tech, or some other expensive solution?
Thank you for your assistance in advance.
