I'm running Windows 98 (second edition) my Sony PVC-314 DS(U) desktop. I'm planning on upgrading to Windows XP. I was upgrading some drivers that i had downloaded from the internet and something went wrong. I cain't access My Computer on the Desktop. Ever time I try to open the Icon the computer locks up and the only way to shut it off is to hold the power button in. I've tried to run my Sony Application Recovery CD, but I get an ERROR STARTING PROGRAM: The MSVCIRT.DLL files linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL:??_U@YAPAXI@Z message. I can access all the other Icons on the Desktop, connect to my local Internet and use the browsers MSN Explorer and Netscape 6.1. I can play games and other programs such as PhotoWise in the DVD drive. Can anyone please help me correct what I've messed up when I installed the upgrade drivers. Thanks for any help you can give me.

[B]In the Resolution to my problem with the ERROW MESSAGE: Msvcirt.dll File Is Missing Export Msvcrt.dll, I tried all of the steps listed. Everything went ok until I come to steps: 9. At the command prompt, type Rename C:\Windows\System\Msvcrt.dll Msvcrt.old, and then press ENTER. The message I got was: Duplicate file name or file in use. 10. Type Rename C:\Windows\System\Msvcirt.dll Msvcirt.old, and then press ENTER. The message I received was: Duplicate file name or file in use. 11. Type CopyC:\Msvcrt.dll C:\Windows\System, and then press ENTER. Message received was: Over write C:\Windows\System\Msvcrt.Dll (Yes/No/All). I typed Y and got message: 1 file copied. 12. Type Copy:\Msvcirt.dll C:\Windows\System, and then press ENTER. Message received was: Over write C:\Windows\System\Msvcirt.Dll (Yes/No/All). I typed Y and got message: 1 file copied. 13. Restarted the computer. When I restarted the computer, it still locked up when I clicked on My Computer. When I restarted again and tried to run the System Recovery CD, I still got the ERROR MESSAGE:Msvcirt.dll File Is Linked to Missing Export Msvcrt.dll. Because I got the message: Duplicate file name or file in use, I went to C:\ by going to Start>Run and deleted 2-3 files that was dated for that day. Needless to say, I done the wrong thing. When I restarted the computer the Desktop looked like it was in the SAFE MODE, only it didn't have it wrote in the corners. The mouse doesn't work and all I can do with the keyboard is highlite a few Icons in the center of the Desktop. I restarted in the SAFE MODE and clicked on the Recycle Bin to try and restore the deleted files, but it was empty. I ran the full restore Scandisc, but it didn't help either. I rebooted in the Logged (C:\BOOTLOG.TXT) and noted the Errors and Failers.
