Hi Folks

I have recently added a second HDD drive and an Internal DVD drive to an existing PC.

I then installed a new version of Windows XP Pro.

Unfortunately, the drives were assigned different drive letters. I would like to change them so that my main HDD with Programme files is Drive C:

Can I open My Computer - right click on the chosen drive and select RENAME and then alter the drive name??

Any help welcome

Cheers

Clare

You can rename the drives using the method you described but to change drive letters you must go into Disk Management. Right cllok "My Compter" --select "Manage"--"Disk management". You can NOT change the C: drive.

Unfortunately, you'll have to re-install Windows if you want your 'main' drive to have C:\

For this reason, you should only have the hard drive Windows is being installed on connected during install. This includes flash keys and card readers. Drives that are, or appear to be pre-formatted will be given C: on install before you have chance to create a partition on the new hard drive.

Hi Guys

Thank you.

I will start again, and reinstall Win XP with single HDD attached.

I appreciate the help
