Hi,

I need to purchase a printer for printing documents that consist solely of black text. I don't need colour print or facilities such as copy and scan.

In this regard I've been discouraged from buying a budget printer due to the cost of replacement ink cartridges, which can cost nearly as much as the machine.

Could you please recommend a relatively inexpensive printer that fits my printing requirements and accommodates inexpensive replacement cartridges?

For black and white only, I'd recommend an inexpensive monochrome laser printer. I've used Samsung laser's for years and refill the toner cartridges for about $10 for 3000 copies. Here's a nice deal at Newegg on an HP laser with free shipping.

This is the Samsung I'm currently using:

I use this Brother Monochrom Printer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828113291) at home. The toner is very reasonable and lasts a long time.

It also has built in wireless networking that I have NEVER had a problem with.

Just my 2 cents

For various reasons, I only recommend HP laser printers. Here's one for 100 bucks, same one PR recommended.
