I'm looking for a scanner to scan photos onto my computer for safe keeping. I have never had a scanner so I do not know what is good and what is overkill. What DPI? LED's or Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp, etc.
I'm really looking for the most bang for the buck and don't want to spend more than $200. Frankly, if there's a good one out there for less than $100 that would be great.
Thank you in advance.

this is a hard one to get but at the same time a scanner is as only good as one likes their pictures to be reproduced... so I am going out on a limb and thinking this one would be the best representation for your art that was created originally from your device and hand.
here is a link to were it is in stock... http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A1281975&cs=19&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=27530&lid=627063 double check with the seller to see if it can be returned within a time frame, like 30 days, so you can check it out and make sure it reproduces your creativity in a manner that suites you. adarama i trust will work with you but they are currently out of stock.
I hopes this provides you some direction, It is most painful for me to recommend something so personal as your art work.

I've had good luck with the Cannon LIDE line of scanners. They have several models under $100. I like the software that comes bundled with the Scanner. I have an older LIDE 50 that still works great.

Thank you, I was actually looking at both of those on NewEgg.
Historically, for photo scanning I have been happiest with Epsons.
