Hi,
Just a quick question for the group. My Uncle just got a new computer with WIN ME on it and he hates it. Not sure of all the facts of his hatred but he wants to know if he can install WIN 98 on it and go back to using that?
Thanks for your help. Me, I'm saving for XP
David;)

Hi Tongra,

If he tries to, Windows will give the message, 'You have a newer version of Windows already installed', and won't let you continue. He'll have to do a clean install to put 98SE on his machine.

Most people that IV talked to are sticking with 98SE untill the bugs are worked out of XP. They are sticking with 98 because ME kinda sucks, so I am told.
And yes, he will have to do a clean install with 98.

Hi Tongra,

What kind of PC does your Uncle have? Is it a store bought name brand PC (Compaq, HP, Sony, Dell, etc...) or a clone? Some of the name brand PC's (I know Compaq does this) use part of the hard drive sort of like the BIOS and you can't mess it up or the PC won't work right.

If it's a clone (custom built with off the shelf parts), let us know and we can walk you through the process of installing Win98. Clones are much easier to work with.
