Here is the problem. When my friend boots his comp it hangs up at the windows splash screen. If you hit the alt key twice it will continue to boot but gets hung at the second post screen after the splash screen and when it finally boots to windows (if youre that lucky) about 75% of the time you get a message saying that windows did not detect a ps2 mouse and the keyboard doesnt work either. Ive scanned for viruses with the latest definitions, Ive ran norton system check, and Ive ran dr. watson and nothing is out of the ordinary. There are no conficts in device manager and Ive got a minimal number of programs running at startup. Any ideas what I could do to get this thing to boot up properly? Here are the specs of the comp.
Biostar m6tlc mobo
Diamond viper v770 ultra vid card
sound blaster awe 64 ISA
AOPEN modem model-fm56-p

Check all the settings in the bios set up.

I would check the IRQ assignments in the bios. Only becase if the mouse and keyboard are not being detected this would indicate some resouce conflict.

Conflicts with the modem and sound card?
Could I get away with trying them in diffrent slots?
Im not too good with IRQ assignments. :(

After just reading your other post given that fact, I would think it would be best that you let your friend find thier version of windows and reformat and re-install. It is not legal to put your version on another machine.

If you suspect that is the culprit, you could take the card out completely, and try it without.

Ive switched slots and now its acting goofy as hell. I thought the old aopen modem might have been the culprit causing the problems but when I completely pulled it out I get himem errors and all sorts of other bs and cant even get it to boot. Im gonna tell my friend to upgrade cause ive spent over 3 hours fooling with his comp and im done with it. Lets kill this thread
