USB to ethernet adapters

Has anyone had success using a USB to ethernet adapter on a scanner? I have someone who wants a copier/printer/scanner in a location 25+ft from the nearest PC. I'll be running the network connection through a switch for workgroup printing but to use the scanner it needs a USB connection.

I'm looking at using a USB-ethernet-USB adapter to connect one of the PCs and before I go to the trouble I'd like some input.

I think you need a printer server. Something like this:

I would have to agree with matt because to put any device on an IP based ethernet network you have to be able to assign an IP address to it, which you could probably not do for a basic scanner using just a usb to ethernet adapter. The manual for the scanner should tell you if it is networkable as it stands.

The manual (which can be found at this link (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=239&modelid=16478#DownloadDetailAct) if you're interested) says that the device can be networked but only for printing. Scanning can only be performed through USB.

Running USB over 25+ft isn't a great idea so I was thinking of using an adapter to convert the USB to ethernet and back to USB at the PC. The scanning portion would not be networked, only the printing. If this sounds feasible, does anyone have experience with a device like this one? Buy a HP Officejet 6310. It's fully networkable over Ethernet and it's less than 100 bucks now. You can't do what you want with what you have now.
