Hey guys.

I have this weird problem, please let me know if someone has even ehard of this. About a 5 months ago I inustalled Windows XP beta on my laptop. Worked fine for about a week and then internet started hanging for no reason... after 2-3 hours of work explorer stops finding other websites. Ping works fine, so does the local network, but can't browse, telnet or FTP. Happens at work and home, so it's not my home connection.

About a month ago I set up another computer at home, both are connected through a router. The laptop problems disappeared and the same identical thing started happening on the new PC. And it was supposed to be a server, running 24/7. I tried reinstalling windows from scratch, changin network cards, nothin... still does the same thing. Any ideas of what it could be or what I could look look for would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The DNS caching on soho routers is notoriously crappy and unreliable. Try specifying DNS addresses in your TCP/IP settings for each machine, and see if it goes away.

I'll try it but I have my laptop on the same exact router and it's been up for the last 2 weeks with no problems. I also tryied releasing and renewing setting on the desktop that hangs and it did not help. I also will try to connect it straight to the cable modem and see if that helps.

Anyone else?
