Explorer problem in Win98

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Nothing comes out on the Folders pane (left side) of explorer. All i get is a blank grey area with the close button on its upper right. No Desktop, My COmputer, 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), etc. tree to pick a directory object. And when I try double-clicking a folder on the right pane it opens to a new explorer folder even when I goto Folder Options->General Tab->Custom Settings->and pick Open each folder in the same window.

to enable the Folder pane goto View->Explorer Bar->Check Folders (for clarification).

I've never seen this, but if you don't have IE 6, try upgrading <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/ie6/default.asp" target="IE">here</a>

This is happening in Windows Explorer right, not Internet Explorer?

First, did you install anything (software or hardware) prior to this happening?

Does it happen all the time?

How many programs do you have running at the same time...how many background programs do you run normally?

What are you system specs? Have you updated your video drivers and DirectX lately?

Are you experiencing any other problems with your system?

Problem solved people.

I just reinstalled Win98. This wasn't my laptop, actually it was a 760EL IBM Thinkpad. I didn't know what the owner'd done with it to get it the way it was. One thing curious about his Windows Explorer was Folder Options was available under both the View Menu and the Tools menu. Isn't it supposed to be under View in Win98 and not under Tools? He probably installed some kind of update for IE which affected his Windows Explorer. A possibility?
