Headphones

Am new to the audio part of pc after all these years. My music CDs play well on pc speakers. Have tried different headphones plugged into the cd player but a no-go. I even unplugged the pc speakers. What do I do to keep from disturbing the gal bud? Is there a setting on the pc to do this?

It sounds like you need circum-aural headphones (noise isolating) but without knowing what you used I can't give you any suggestions.

Help me out and tell me your taste in music ( Some headphones are best for heavy bass and some are balanced for games or movies. ) and your sound set-up ( The set-up with a major sound card gives much more scope. ) .

I use headphones that fit the slot, like ones for my IPOD or any other portable device including SONY Walkman.

You have to plug the headphones into the front panel audio jack or disconnect the speakers and plug them into the sound card. The jack on the CD drive doesn't work unless you have an audio pigtail going from the CD drive to the sound card.

Is there no headphone jack in your speakers anywhere? That's what I've always used, although I know some models don't have that. My old speakers used to have a jack right on the front of one of the speakers that when you plugged the headphones into it, it would cut off the audio to the desktop speakers and only play through the headset. That's what I like about the Creative speaker set that I bought a couple years ago (at least).....it has this little control box that only has the Power and Bass knobs on it, but on the end is the headphone jack plug. Very handy, being right in front of you on the desktop.

One thing to add : Right click on speaker in the system tray and select the set up for stereo headphones also ( You'll see that in Adjust Audio Properties).

if you don't have any front panel audio, then like glc said... unplug speakers and plug into the sound card. there are three or six holes on the card... plug into the light green one.

Thanks fellers. I simply plugged the thing into the back of the PC and it works. Cord's too short though, gotta lean to the right and get a pain in neck. I'll work thru that by hopefully getting some kind of extension wire if it exists. As an aside, I have too many poles in the lake what with the Bug and all, but at same time, ain't nothin' bothering me...a weird change in life for sure.

Extensions exist. Radio shack should have some.

Bought that for my grandma so she can listen to tv at night with headphones and not disturb anyone.

You could also get a simple audio splitter. You can leave the headphones and speakers plugged into the splitter, which is attached to the computer. Then just flip the switch to whichever you want to use. Costs a bit more but saves you the hassle of switching them all the time.

There are also headphones that come with longer cords too, so no extension is needed. I got this set about a year ago.

They've got a six and a half foot cord on them and they sound better than any headphones I've had in the past. Granted, they're not going to compete with the high-end headphones, but then again, they're under $20, which those high-end models can't claim.

I have a set of Emprex speakers that use USB. Anyway, as long as there are extensions or phones with longer cords I'll be happy. Thanks for the tips.
