Simple, I think:
Cox cable is in the house, with cable tv to all rooms. I have a laptop with XP Media Center, but no cable connection.
What do I have to purchase to connect my laptop to the RG 6 cable in the wall and watch TV on my media center laptop?

Here's a good sampling:

Then, go to the 'type' dropdown menu, select either External Tuner, USB Tuner Stick, or Tuner for Laptop. Just about anything on any of those lists should meet your needs. If you're picking something from the Tuner for Laptop menu, make sure your PCMCIA slot isn't already being used.

I went out and purchased a Hauppauge unit the other day, and installed it three different times. Each time I tried to use it it locked up the entire XP laptop before I had to reboot the thing.
So I took it back to Fry's. I have given up on the idea of mixing a pre existing unit with an add on video feature.
