AVI to DVD for home player

I thought I had this working, but after a couple coffe coasters, I need to regroup.
Is there any "easy" software out there that will turn a AVI movie into a DVD for home players?

I use xilisoft:

It converts the .avi to the required dvd files and then I use the "ReAuthor" tool in DVDShrink to make a DVD that I can play on my Sony DVD player.

Most of the time I am far to busy to sit down and find out why a particular piece of software doesn't do what I want and I stumble upon an alternative method and just run with it.
I use DVDShrink to backup most of my DVD's especially as I buy DVD's here in the States as region 1 and in the UK as region 2, using DVDShrink I can remove the region coding and that allows me to play my DVD's on any of my machines. Laptop (UK) and my three towers (USA).

When you convert using xilisoft it creates the DVD files and to me they look exactly the same as when I am backing up a DVD, BUT, for some reason DVDShrink fails in the decoding/burning process, I used the "ReAuthor" tool and it worked straight away. (One day I may have the time to sit down and figure this out)

The method I use is:
Create a folder called 'xilisoft output', create another folder called DVDShrink.
I then set xilisoft to put the converted files into the xilisoft output folder, then I tell DVDShrink to ReAuthor the files in the xilisoft folder and to put the temporary output files to the DVDShrink folder. When you have finished burning the disk you can delete all the files in the xilisoft and DVDShrink folders you made.

I just remembered something. If your .avi is 'letterbox' you can highlight the film in xilisoft and change it to full screen, I have done this several times and never noticed a glitch of any kind.

DVDFlick (http://www.dvdflick.net/) can convert just about any video file into a DVD. It burns them too.

I am now D/L AVS Video Converter.
Will see which is easiest and produces the best DVD.
