Hi all,

installed ok and all my drivers, then installed my Nvidia GeForce 8500GT and i have no sound and cant get the "Audio Device High Def Audio Bus" to install properly.

have read this thread....

http://www.pcmech.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1364713

and have tried a few things but cant find any help on nvidia website. disabling in the BIOS was mentioned in the other thread but i cant seem to find anything in there, dont really understand the BIOS thing.

Welcome to PCMech Greg,

The drivers you're referring to should have installed as part of the motherboard chipset which you would have installed immediately after the XP install .
Did you do that?
The only reason to disable the sound in the bios would be if you were using a 3rd party sound card.
In that case you would un-install the on board drivers and disable sound in the bios.

It's a pain but in your place I would do a reformat and re-install of XP and the chipset drivers .
Do you get audio, the XP start up jingle, now ?
Are there any yellow "?" or "!" in Device Manager?

yeah pam, lots of "!" and "?" in device manager, and no, i dont have the start jingle.

think i may restart again like you say.

thanks for advice,
Greg

All those flags in device manager are indicative of no or wrong drivers installed.

And this time be sure you load the motherboard chipset drivers after the XP install.
