Win XP Install Drive Letter Issue?

I just installed 2 IDE hard drives in my computer, one master and one slave. I installed windows XP on the master and the install went completely textbook but when I go into My Computer the drive letter for the master is set to F and the slave drive is set to C. Why?? Should I just leave it alone or will it cause certain programs to search for files on the wrong drive? I already tried to install Yahoo Messenger and I got an error message saying something about a command line error... Whats going on here?

I would advice biting the bullet and do a reinstall. Do it with ONE HDD installed.

Yep, reinstalled with one drive and presto! C Drive! Weird...

When you did the first install did Windows not prompt you as to which drive you wanted Windows installed to?
Having two harddrives installed when you are installing Windows is not a great idea by the way.

Yes, it prompted me just as it always has and I selected the unpartitioned space on the master drive. It installed xp to that drive except it named it F rather than C. It named the slave drive C yet the OS was on not installed on it. I did a reinstall with only the master and added the slave later and all was well. I wont be doing that again! ;-P

The same thing will happen if you have a card reader or any USB devices that are seen as removable drives (such as printers with card slots) connected.
