hello. just a quick question. i noticed that on operating systems windows 98 or 2000 sometimes disk cleanup takes almost forever to complete. any ideas on a way around this? thanks
Use CCleaner instead of disk cleanup. Disk cleanup compresses seldom used files, which is not necessary, and CCleaner does a better job anyway.

Or you can edit the registry to remove the Compress files option. This allows Disk Cleanup to open very quickly. For 2000 do the following. It's been so long since I've played with 98, I don't remember if this is the same path or not.
run>regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>VolumeCaches. Delete the entire branch titled CompressOldFiles
I prefer to use Disk Cleanup so I can Delete all but the most recent Restore Points.

I prefer to use Disk Cleanup so I can Delete all but the most recent Restore Points.CCleaner build 2.19.889 added a new Tool to manage restore points for XP and Vista only. It just came out a few days ago and then they just released 2.19.900.
