I used to know the command that you ran at the "run" line that brings up the screen where you can configure the start-up menu among other things. I always got the wording wrong and now I just plain can not remember. Can someone help? Thanks a billion!

If you ever forget then just go to go Start Menu>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information>Tools>System Configuration Utility. It sounds long-winded but it's really quite logical and straithforward.
Or do what I do and place a shortcut to System Information on the Desktop.
You can find the EXE file at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE.
Just right-click on MSINF032.EXE and Send To>Desktop As A ShortCut.

I guess my memory is better than I thought. I cannot find it. Well, win95 can not find it. I am assuming it is not there in W2K. I swear I was able to access it on the 95 machine before! Does it work for 95?

Thanks all!

msconfig is only available in Win98 and WinME, not in Win95. I think Win2K doesn't have it either but I'm not sure, and I'm not sure about WinXP, though.

Maybe you can describe that windows a little bit better so we can figure it out what you mean.

Maybe you mean TweakUI. With this tool you're able to do advanced settings for the GUI, and it is available for Win95 and above.

I was thinking of msconfig. For some reason I thought it was in win95 as well. Of course, I wasn't sure, and that is why I asked. ;) My problem is that the win95 machine is very slow! It's old, and I was trying to think of a way to get it to speed up, at least on boot. There are a lot of programs running in the background and that launch on bootup that are not in the start menu. I remember using the msconfig to assist my slow boot up on my 98 / ME machines at home - that helped a lot since they are gateways and still had all that gateway mumbo-jumbo on them. The 95 machine is my 2nd work PC, and I dread booting it up, especially when I need something on it in a hurry! Lol! (I try to think to myself - this was once a state of the art machine and people marvled at it's speed!). What is TweakUI? Is it something included in 95? I cannot add software to the PC, because as stated, it is a work PC. Do you have any other suggestions?

You guys are great and I thank you for the info already given!

Ok, in this case go into regedit (start > run: type in "regedit") and navigate to Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, and do this with both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

In RUN there are the programs that will start up, and nothing else is displayed in msconfig. . .
