[B]My computer when it starts looks like it's in Safe Mode, but it don't say Safe Mode in the corners like it does when it is in Safe Mode. The keyboard does work now, but the mouse doesn't work. When I do start it in the Safe Mode the mouse does work. I've got a Windows 98 Boot disk on a floppy. When I put it into the computer and restart the computer, it don't start up in the Boot disk mode. It starts in the regular Safe Mode Look as before. I have the Sony System Recovery disk and A Windows 98 SE Upgrade disk also. I have the certificates for both of the Windows disk. Can anyone tell me how to get my computer rebooted. I can erase every program or file that I've that I have on the Hard drives. Thanks

Hi crig48,

I'm not at all familiar with Sony computers, but when you start your computer with the bootdisk in the floppy drive, does it look as if the floppy drive is being accessed? Maybe your BIOS is set to boot from the hard drive first.

Since your mouse works in Safe Mode but not in normal mode, it looks like there's a problem with the virtual driver for the mouse. Is it the original that came with the Sony or another one you added later?

Try going back into Safe Mode and then go to Device Manager. Remove all entries for the mouse. Reboot to normal Windows and see if the mouse get detected and the correct driver get installed by Windows.

Did this problem start after you installed anything new (software or hardware)?
