Are you spending money since 9/11?

It seems that there is a push for people to spend to boost the economy ever since the events of 9/11. Every auto dealer in town is offering 5 year 0% financing, gas in my area has dropped by 21 cents per litre, and one of the travel agencies is offering flights to and from New York for $99.00CDN! While I couldn't get financing yet on a brand new car because of a bankruptcy, I was able to get a 2 year old car that is very new to me. With everything else going down, I'm getting the urge to finally take a real vacation and actually go somewhere.

What, if any, are the incentives in your area to spend once again?

Lawman must be married to a clone of wifey. :D I'm spending same as always, which is for the mortgage and bills. She takes care of the "spending money" and is doing her patriotic duty. When quizzed about her obvious shopping success the other day, she blamed it on Bush. Go figure...

Up to now, we've been spending money about the same. However, with Christmas around the corner look for a generous spike in the economy indicators. We have two grand-children. :D

Unfortunately a lot of people aren't in the situation to spend money. Every day I open the newspaper there are fresh announcements of job losses here in the UK. I guess in the US it is much the same.
Call me cynic if you like but I'll lay good odds that some less reputable companies are using the atrocities as an excuse to "downsize" their workforce without too much aggro from the public or trade unions.
Please tell me I'm wrong and the executives at BA et al are really nice people deep down who care for the well being of their workforce.

Bought a new TV, built the PC listed below, remodeled kitchen , remodeled bathroom , kitchen supplies for the new kitchen, DVDs, going out to dinners... although I did it all after 9-11 I had planned on doing it anyway so I voted same as before. I plan on sending copies of all my receipts to the House and Senate telling them if they would tax me less and leave me more money, I'd be spending more!!

hmmm IM a kid, with a job, and I owe money to my dad, so I couldnt spend any. But my parents, yeah they spent more, but just cause they were too lazy to fix dinner, all of last week, im too tired, lets go out to eat here, works for me....

When I get on a commercial plane(other than American or United)
and someone commndeers the plane how do I know It won't be shot down,
by one of ours? Also if it was shot down would they ever admit it?

Here in NZ i don't really think that people have changed their day to day lives..

Initially there was a small amount of extra frugality, but otherwise it's pretty much business as usual.. People are more concerned about the ramifications of what the war could possibly be on the places you can go in the world and look "western", rather than the effect it will have on your wallet..

Personally i blame the media for this supposed recession, "they" said there was going to be a recession and "they" are now saying that "they" were right.. but when i look around.. i don't see it in the average joe.. personally i'm with heidthebaw in that the big companies are using it as a neat excuse to dump off employees in order to keep their profit margins the same..

somehow i can't see large, well established airlines not having money "put away for a rainy day"..? do airlined sail so close to the wind that a month of less than usual turnover will all but sink it?

or is it the fact that i'm sooo far away from america, and am a little suspicious of everything that goes into the news (with good reason.. but that's another thread.. :) ) that i've not seen the whole picture.. from reading these forums (and others) people aren't letting the 11/9/01 attacks hinder their thrift..
