Opinios: Best way to improve FPS?

Could you guys list the factors from top to bottom on how to improve FPS in online gaming? Like in Counter Strike and Dark Age of Camelot.

Ok, so i assume that you have applied all the tweaks to your system,in the end
it really comes down to your connection speed, broadband ect,,,, post your sytem
specs and improvments to your box and we will see what can be done......

Agreed, post your: operating system, system specs (CPU, RAM, etc.), video card, and net connection and we'll recommend what can be done for more FPS.

I have a MSI K7T266 Pro_RAID, 1.33 TB, 512 pc2100, nVidia mx200 64mb, and dial up ISP which usually connects at 48kbps.
I was also wondering what was the most important component since in my old 300 celery with the video card mention above I do pretty good and 128 mb of ram, same connection speed.

The MX200 is your weak link. I don't think you will ever get really good frame rates out of that card. The video card would be on my short list for an upgrade.

I agree... I've never bought on to the MX bandwagon... It's a crippled version of a very capable card. Get yourself a GeForce 2Ti or even one of the new GeForce 3Ti cards. You'll notice a big difference in raw frame rates.

far be it from me to disagree with someone with more posts than me, but i will anyway. i'll agree that an mx200 is vastly out of place in a 1.33ghz tb, but for slower machines (say 500-1000mhz) the mx series gives decent bargain performance plus feature support that an ex-top of the line card like a voodoo 3 or 4 wouldn't have

lotsa people in the gaming forums will rag on the mx series
and just tell you to buy a radeon or a ti or something else
but you should make your decision on more factors than "any good"
main factors are your processor, ram, agp support, and intended software you'll use
after that, figure out a price you're willing to spend, and then you can start narrowing the field down

guzano don't mind these guys. the mx200 is not that bad. it'll def give u 100 fps on CS. My tnt2 (on 2nd box) gives me 100 fps. Ok for counter strike do these following steps.

For win98:
go into console and type fps_max 300
type netgraph_3 to see ur fps
netgraph_0 to turn off

For win 2k or xp:
go there and apply the restricting 60 refresh rate

or just turn of vsync
go to display properties, settings, advanced, additional properties, open gl properties, and turn vsync off

90 fps at the least w/ these steps on cs. i dunno bout other games. cya HTH

i bought a GeForce2 MX400 value for 60 dollars from www.ocie.com. the games i played (diablo 2, warcraft 2, anything 2, anything from blizzard) had very good frame rates. it was a 64MB videocard, but wasnt ddr.

Everyone's certainly entitled to their opinions... but I still stand by mine. You get what you pay for in the video card industry. The MX line of GeForce cards are limited and simply don't produce up to par with the GTS. That's all I was getting at. If you want to spend a little money just so you can say you've got a GeForce 2 (MX), more power to you... but it's similar to buying a TNT2 M64 and telling everyone you've got a TNT2. It's the truth.... but it's not an honest truth.

i don't mean to be picky
but i'm sure warcraft 2 doesn't benefit from 3d acceleration
diablo 2 might use it a little bit
but those games are both almost entirely sprite-based
in fact, i can't think of a whole lot blizzard has done that is 3d
maybe it's their secret to good games

In my opinion the GeForce MX cards are great for the budget gamer. They're good enough for almost every game and you can get decent frame rates. Just don't expect it to run smooth with 3D intensive games like RTCW at highest resolution and colors with every setting set to max, you have to adjust for the cards limitations.
