Hello Everybody and Welcome to the General Software Forum!

I thought I would post some guidelines on how to use this forum and give some examples to give everyone an idea what kind of posts would belong in this forum.

As stated, this is a "Forum for miscellaneous software questions that do not deal with a specific operating system.". If you have a question that pertains to an Operating System such as win9x, Win2k, Linux etc., please use the appropriate forum. If you have a question on software, such as but not limited to, shareware, freeware, office software, misc. applications (e.g. video editing/cdburning), etc., go ahead and post it here. Please do not post your General Software Questions in the General Discussion forum anymore, this is what this forum is for.

Here are some examples of posts that would fit in this forum:

1. Looking for some XXXXX software (e.g. videoediting)

2. Need help with XXXXX software (e.g. winamp)

3. Looking for some freeware software sites

4. How do I burn a cd with Adaptec's EZ Cd creator?

5. What is ICQ?

Here are some examples of posts that would not fit in this forum:

1. How do I use the Control panel in windows XX?

2. Bluescreen error in windows ME.

3. Firewalls/Anti virus programs (should be posted in the Tech News/System Security forum).

4. Anything hardware related.

5. Anything related to software piracy, warez, key and serial cracking, and registration avoidance. These subjects are not to be discussed in any of the PC Mech forums for legal and ethical reasons.

I hope this gives everyone a pretty good idea of what kinds of posts belong in this forum. I'm sure there might be times, when a post may fit in another forum as well. If this is the case, please only pick one forum and post your question only once. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Hope everyone enjoys this new forum!

I am looking for the documenatation on forum in php and mysql.
The documentation should depicts what is thread, posts and etc?
When adding new article to a forum, how the indexing should be done on the keywords of the articles? What is reindexing?

I think you should head on over to the Web Programming and Development Forum (http://forum.pcmech.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14).
