using a dsl usb modem with win xp.I would like to network to second computer with win 98me. What exactly is the reasonable way to do this. If you could tell me what is compatible with the usb alcatel modem. Thanks,Russ

Hi Russ,
You will need a network card installed in each computer, a hub or a switch, and have ICS (Internet Connection Sharing, comes with Windows 98SE and XP) or similar internet sharing software installed on the computer which has access to the USB modem (this computer will have to be on at all times for the other computer to access the net). Search these forums (button on top) for more information on ICS. If you are only connecting two computers, then you don't need the hub, you can use a crossover cable instead.

My advice though is to replace the USB modem (I used to have one too) with an ethernet one if you can. It will be faster, use less of your system's resources, and is easier to share that way.
