This might sound stupid but I have a friend ask me her computer isn't opening JPEG files. She asked me why but I thought about it and I really didn't have an answer because I just take it for granted that it does because I have never had that problem. Any suggestions?

right click on jpeg file>choose open with> then choose the program you want, (ie photoshop, internet explorer, or whatever)
It may be worth noting that the "open with" option is not automatically available with versions earlier than windows 2000. You need to select the file with a single left click then holding shift, right click and you'll see the open with option. Once you've selected the app you want to use to open the file, you need to tick the "always use this program...." button to permanantly asscociate the file type with the app.

the open with option has been around for a long time.

Well, I'm not sure this topic fits in this forum, but since you are already talking 'bout jpegs I'll post it.
When I installed Win98 it displayed a thumbnail of bmp, gif, and jpg files, but after some time it only displays bmps.
Does anyone have the same problem? Or does anybody knows why it happens?
Thanx in advance

The association was changed. JPEGs, GIFs, and the like are all viewable from Explorer as a web extension -- when the association was changed, it is no longer a web extension (HTML associated) so Explorer won't give you the thumbnail.

That must have happened when I installed Photoshop 5.0.
Thanks!
