Is there such a thing as a software that will allow you to change the key of a taped piece of music?

What kind of tape are you talking about? I'm looking at your problem from a hardware standpoint first, software 2nd. And how much money are you willing to spend?

accompaniment tapes in particular in cassette format. I'd like to try to stay under $300.00.

Most any quality audio editor (WaveLab, Sound Forge) will take a input signal and re-sample it (thereby changing hte pitch) without changing the speed (slowwing down or speeding up). But it's very difficult to do well. It's one of those things that you don't just pick a operation and go -- you have to prep the file and doa lot of work first.

My advice (haivng done this a ton of times) -- find the track you want in another key. Most companies offer acc. tracks in various keys or on CD with numerous keys. It will keep you from one heck of a migraine.
