I have just installed Nero CD Burner software and this seems to work great but included with the software is another program that was also installed on my computer called "Nero Image drive" ( I dont know what this program does as the help files were not loaded with the program) The thing is that when I look at "my computer" it now shows that I have 3 drives other than my hard drive. They are listed as D E and F respectively. I should only have 2 other drives ( my CD burner being one of them and my CD Rom drive being the other. In Device manager under CDROM drives it lists ATAPI CDROM, HPCDwriter and the 3rd as NeroImagedrive. My original CDROM drive that was on D: is now assigned to E:
Should I uninstall the software for Image drive or is it a worthwhile program. If so what does it do.
Nero Image Drive:
will allow you to view the contents of a Nero CD Images (*.nrg) and mount them in the system explorer.
So - I personally don't see much use for it unless you are making a lot of image files and need to be able to see what's in each one. That's a proprietary image format anyway and .iso is universal. Winimage and other 3rd party utilities can read .iso files without mounting them as a drive letter.
It's a CD emulator. That means that instead of burning a CD-R you just make an image of the CD and load it into the emulator. There you can use it like a normal CD.
My WinOnCD includes the Roxio CD emulator. I find it very useful as when I make a new CD I can test it before burning it, and making an image is faster than the actual burning. Also my CD recorder will live a bit longer since many burn processed have been avoided with the emulator.
Anyway it depends on you if you need it or not.
When I want to test something, mainly a new SVCD (but one time I had to test AutoRun. The brother of a friend of mine wanted to run a html file automatically. I made several images and tested them and then we found out how if works. Using a CD-RW I'd've needed a lot more time) then I use the image. If all works well then I finally burn it.
For making normal data CDs or duplicate a CD you won't need the emulator.

Thanks for the information guys. I might just keep it on the computer and play around with it to see if I have any use for it.
