hi. im using windows 98se. i went to deviantart.com to get some cool backgrounds, when i noticed the even cooler themes and icons they have there. how exactly would i set up one of those themes they have(do i need any special programs/what folder does the theme go in). Also, i got some of the XP icons, and others, wil they all work in 98, or does XP do something different for displaying icons. thanks a bunch. also, one more question...should i stick with 98se, or go to 2000 or XP? i mainly use my system for gaming(new games mainly, the oldest ones i play are probably tie fighter, and some other star wars flight sim fighter type games, besides those mainly rts and fps)

If it is as I suspect it will be a new desktop theme, for these you may need your Windows 98 CD to install the Desktop Themes component

I am downloading one of their themes at the moment so I can test it and get back to you

As for whether to switch to 2000/XP or not, for just gaming I wouldn't bother. Unless you don't have a 3D card, (software rendering in my experience plays better/faster in 2000)

Some more opinions on the 98 to 2000 switch issue please...?

HTH, Thanks,

No instructions from the site as to how to install the themes, and they the one I downloaded at least wasn't a standard windows theme

So I suspect when you download a 'theme' from there, you just choose what you want to use for what

So right click on your desktop and change the background to one of the pictures included, goto Control Panel and change the windows sounds to those provided that sound the best

Hope that helps, get back to us for more help

I dont know much about setting up themes. I run a clean desktop and use just a plain black background, I dont like to clog my system down with all the extra files it has to load. Granted they arent much and I have more than enough system resources. As for gaming win2k is stable as can be but I have found that I got higher frame rates in 98se. Depends on what you really want I guess. I wanted dual processor support so 98 was not an option for me, but my gameing is just fine on 2k.
