Hi there..

I'm not entirely sure which section this would come under (win98 or hardware) but in any event..

Ever since i reinstalled win98SE on my computer the on/off button has not been responding for turing the computer off once windows is running.. obviously, it turns on ok.. :) (i know your "not supposed" to do that.. but when everything has frozen.. there's not much else to do..) up until this point it had been working fine.. but once i reinstalled.. that's when i noticed this little oddity..

does anyone have any ideas what this might be..? nothing's changed in the bios or anywhere else i can think of.. ah well..

yeah, mine does that too. i have a master panel under the monitor that i use to cut power when it locks up bad. lets see if anybody has a good answer.

Hi fudge,

Next time, try holding the power button for 4 seconds or more.

Does your case have a reset button somewhere? You could also use that next time your system locks.

Try going into to BIOS and set the power switch to Instant Off.

hay cricket :)

thanks for the tips.. :)

the bios is set to instant off and whatnot.. there ain't no reset button either.. which is actually a bitof a pain.. i still haven't gotten out of the habit of reaching for one, yet i haven't had one for.. well.. years.. in fact, i sometimes catch myself looking for the power light to be flashing like it used to on my beloved amiga..
