unable 2 display modem status!??!

hi,
i have a problem here,when i right click one of my dial up networking,and clicked the modem properties.i checked the 'display moden status box under 'option' tab! when ever i get connected to the internet, da modem status din show up on my start menu bar there? can any1 help me 2 get rid of this problem?is there any problem wif my win 98 se or my modem?!

That's where the icon should be, if box is checked. If you don't want it, uncheck it.
