Hi all,

I am running WIN98SE. When i shutdown the computer the PC stalls when it says "windows is shutting down" & the computer doesn't switch itself off, so i have to turn it off by pressing the off button for 5 seconds. Does anyone know how to rectify this problem? Would be very grateful if anyone can help. Many Thanks

Hi,

have you installed the Win98SE shutdown patch ? If not, then you should do this as there actually is a shutdown issue in Win98SE.

Just go to Windows update. The updater will check your PC and display available updates for you. There look for the shutdown patch and install it.

I upgraded from Windows98 to 98SE on my Dell laptop.......Naturally my Dell didn't want to shut down. A defrag corrected my shut down problem. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I have eventually sorted out this problem. I tried your suggestions but to no avail. What I did was check the jumper settings on my hard drive. There was 2 different master settings so I changed it over - Problem solved all is working now!! Thanks for the help.
