ME is installed in my friends 20GB hard drive. His goal is to keep ME in 10GB and use the other 10 GB's for Windows 98SE. Do we need to partician the hard drive?

How difficult is it to install Windows 98SE...........

Looking forward to hearing from yu all.

Hi waiting,

Yes, you will need to partition the drive in two. Since it has already been formatted you'll need to use a program like Partiton Magic to create a new partition ( C: and D: ). After that you can install Win98 on the D: partition and it will allow you to dual boot. Win98SE is very simple to install, just put in the CD, run setup, and follow the onscreen instructions. Hope that helps.

Dr Z: Thanks for your prompt reply. Do you know anybody who has two operating systems on the same hard drive?

waiting,

I myself don't dual boot, but there are other users on this forum who do and I'm sure they can help you out with any problems. Here is a guide to dual booting (running 2 operating systems on one drive):

I have both linux and windows 98 on the same hard drive. Get a free program like FIPS to split the partition. Make sure you read the documentation for it. Then using using FDISK, delete the second partition, put a partition back on, and format it with FORMAT. Then procede to installing windows 98 on it. If you need me to be a bit more specific just ask. HTH

Ummmm. This may be a little late.

Renegade, if you installed Linux after Win, using commercial CD, it auto installed the Linux boot loader.

This guy's freind, I think, is going to need a similar boot manager.

If he comes back, he can look at System commander, System magic, and there are a couple free managers available on the internet. Just do a search for "boot manager". W98SE has an option built in to "boot to old DOS" but it has never functioned correctly for me. I get the option on boot up, but "old DOS" never boots.
