Tonight I swapped my trusty old Epox MPVGM5 and K-6/3 mb for an Abit KT7A/Raid and Athlon 1.2 T-bird. It was the smoothest setup I've encountered in my limited experience. At any rate, I'm running the fsb at 133 and everything's been rock solid for the past 6 hours. Cpu temp is 30-33c (although I haven't pushed the system very hard yet). The only problem is when I went to flash the bios I cannot boot to the floppy. I have floppy enabled as the first boot device, I formatted the floppy, copied all flash files to it, but on boot up I just get "system disk error"....shouldn't it boot right to it and start the flash program? I flashed my old epox 3 times without a hitch. Suggestions? This is a known to be working floppy drive. Do I need to go to a dos prompt to enable files on the floppy? I know, inane questions, but this isn't something I do everyday.

did you format it as a system disk "format a: /s" ? if you did not just open a dos window and type sys a: then you should be able to boot off it

I formatted it windows and copied the system files to it.

Which version of Windows are you running ?

If it's Win95 or 98 then you won't need the floppy. Just hit F8 on bootup and select "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only". This will load no drivers and give you the correct environment to flash the bios.

not if I don't know the prompt and it isn't on the Abit web site. It just says "boot to the floppy and run the program". I'm running '98

After scouring the web I found this site http://www.mysuperpc.com/computer_upgrade.shtml and it had the necessary command prompt ("runme"). Now isn't it a bit funny that this wasn't included in Abits own flash info??? At any rate, the KT7a/Raid flashed just fine. Thanks!
