Lost email

My sister is running Windows 98 and has her email set to capture in Outlook Express and or Hotmail. I think that it is Outlook Express. She was attempting to transfer some important emails to floppy disk, when in her haste she deleted them. She cannot find them in the deleted files or the recycle bin. Can anyone help with this problem?

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but did she look in the deleted items folder? Also, I could be wrong, but if she deleted them using Outlook, if it is a hotmail account, the items might not get deleted on the hotmail server, so she can log into the hotmail website, and access the e-mail from there.

Yes she did check in the deleted files folder with no luck. As for the hotmail, she seems to be having trouble getting into it. Any ideas for how to get back into that?

How was your sis trying to copy them to floppy disk? I am just trying to understnad what might have happened - which it turn might give some clue as to where the files have gone.
In what way is hotmail giving trouble? What's it saying?

She was trying to copy them to a file or folder, and then download to floppy. She was only getting one at a time and then she tried to select all and do it that way. When that didn't work out, she looked in Outlook Express,Hotmail and Outlook and saw copies of each. She, for reasons unkwown to me, selected all in Express and deleted them, thinking that they were unneeded. When she did that, she lost them all. They are not in deleted files, recycle bin or anywhere else that I can think of. Help if you can.

My sister has tried to get into her Hotmail and was not able to because the system is now rigged for Outlook Express. She didn't change anything that I know of. Would system restore be able to reacquire the emails that had been held in Hotmail?

Alas, I think you have looked in all the right places. The fact that you haven't found them does seem to indicate they are gone...
Whe you say "system restore" just exactly what(or which) restore are you talking about?

When I say system restore, I am asking about anything that might work to reset the computer so that she might be able to locate the missing files. Some of these emails go back four months.
Isn't there some way or file that is duplicated that can be brought up. Maybe the ones that would be erased on a disk cleanup.
