can't format c: /s ,trying to reinstall win-95

by error i deleted win files and win will no start again,i inserted a start up disk and restart comp,when it went to a: i typed "format c: /s" and it came back saying "insufficient memory to load system files format terminated" then i typed "format c:" only and it did it ,but it said it formated only 50% of the h.d.,if i type again "format c: /s" it will give me the same message,also it will not see the cd player when i insetr my win-95 disk. you can tell this is the first time i mess with my old computer it is a sony 175 mhs 32 mb ram also i added 16 more mg on ram (40 mb) and it still say insufficient memory to load eyetem files.i tried also 3 more start up disk with same results ,i will apresiate all your help thanks. :confused:

You may have to run fdisk on this drive first with a win 95 boot disk.

Also, you may have to load the dos drivers for your cdrom until 95 is loaded.

ok now i have 1 partition (c) for the entire hd (2-mb) now what is next please ,:) and thanks again .........(still can not see cd drive ,check dir on c: and there is nothing)

i'm sure you mean [2gig] for the hdd and you have ran the format command to prepare for loading any files on the hdd. you won't [see] the cdrom on c:\ . switch to the cdrom by typing d: after the c:\ prompt [but i'm sure you did that too] you should be picking to start with cdrom support from the boot choice menu that your startup disc should be displaying, right? to load the system onto the hdd, type setup after the d:\

now it is looking better .it can read the cdrom,but it said it needs some amount of space on c: drive,i tryed wit 95-cd and 98-cd and same results when i go to c: prompt and check dir uit says "invalid media type reading drive c abort ,retry ,fail? i am rely close still need help thanks

Did you go through running fdisk properly?
In other words did you delete the existing partitions
then create a FAT16 primary dos partition and make it active?
To confirm this run fdisk choose display partition information
you should just see Primary DOS FAT16 .

You may also need to run a virus scan on this drive.

Do you know which version of 95 you have?
If it's B version,you can use Fat32.
Is this a full version of 95 or a system recovery disk?
I assume you have a bootable floppy or the floppy that came with the Windows cd.
Could you give us some info about your computer?
The procedure is to start the computer with the start up floppy,if it's the original floppy that came with Windows,it will load cdrom drivers so your cdrom works.

let's see, i have a 95 and 98 cd,i have 95 start up disk from other computer no from this one ,i also have 98se start up disk............................. i could be able tu run the cd only trying with the 98se start up disk ,when i try fdisk i deleted the partition and then created a new one for the entire drive and it says like this partitiomn: c:1,status: a,type: pri dos ,volume level : is blank, Mbytes:2014 ,system: unknown ,usage: 100% ,but do not find any place where it says if it is fat 16 or 32,when it was working i think it was 32 ,i no not know what kind of antivirus can i scan with.

ok i run format c: with 98se startup disk and now it shows fat 32.

Is this version of win 98 se an OEM version?
Or did this version come with a computer you bought.
Also again we need your system specs.

after it show fat-32 in the partition i restart it then insert 95cd and tiped e:setup it start loading it ,it is still doing it everything looks good so far will post results when finish. did not install 98 because nevef find the key numbers thanks to all.

ok it installed and restart by itself then it says it was seting hardware and plug and play,put came back saying ,,,the file 'atim64.dll" on windows 95 disk 5 could not be found and give me a screen asking where to look for it? i am alot closer every time thanks all again and need little help again....:)

This is an accellerator file for an ATI video card.
This file may be found on your ATI video card cdrom.
Or just hit ESC or cancell to continue the setup.
Or skip file.
Myself I would just proceed with the Windows set up
then update the video driver once widows is finished setting up.

ok it installed i cancell to find dll file ,i try to run a game for my daughter and it sak to change to 256 colors to work .so i went to control panel and changed it ,it ask me to restart it and ok when came back sak me again to inset disk 5 and then click ok ,but i do not have such disk 5

Do you know the makeand model# of your video card?

o.k. i download tle same driver from ate web site instalt it but when i restart the computer still ask me to install disk 5 and says the atim64.dll is not found

Did you run the application installation after downloading it?

i download the driver to a cd on other computer,then i putted cd in this computer and run setup it did all process and install it.,,now i download the atim64.dll file onto a disk and putted it on computer when ask me for this file and it took it,but the it said i am missing some other files as a skip each one till it ask for the las one this is the list of files: ............ atim64.drv , ati.vxd , supervga.drv & ati3D.dll

ok i thought it was time for me to do something so i did a sirch on ,dll files and ,drv files ,so i found all of them putted them on a disk and putted on computer when it ask me for them and all of them installed ok,now i restart the computer and starts ok. highrisemech thanks for all your help and everybody ,i had been trying to make it work for 2 months ,i post my question hese and after two days it is working ,i apreciate all your help thanks:D :D
