My current favorite song, as it is my current endeavor:
Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor

With higher quality synths than what they had with the Nintendo, I am finding much of the RPG music being released today to be very well composed.

I guess for a real band, I would have to go with the Gone Jackals (http://www.blueblack.com/gonejackals.html) Bone to Pick Record. They were the ones who did the music for one of my favorite games, Lucas Arts' Full Throttle.
