Well i seem to have a virus that infects some of my .exe files. It also seems to have rendered all of my .jpg and all other visual files useless, meaning that by double clicking on them they will not open in a photo program. my problem besides having the virus is that i cant get rid of it. It has disabled my norton anti-virus and i cant do a hard install overtop of it with out it damamging the files. The route of the problem seems to have originated in a game file from rogue spear-urban operations. or at least that is where it was hiding out. Is there anything i can do besides reformatting that will fix this, and by this i mean hex editing. Im not to sure how to do this but if it will save me from reformatting i am willing to try it out.
thanks in advance

Your emergency boot disk that came with your antivirus software should get you going. Or you may be able to use the online virus scan feature here. (http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp)

Let me offer another idea.

You could remove the hard drive and make it the second drive of a working machine with a good antivirus program. This should allow you to boot using the main drive and then you can scan both drives for virus'.

Pray that booting won't affect the original drive in this machine.

right, i tried that already, it has infected every sinlge .exe file that is on the computer including the win98.exe file. hmm, the previous post with the online virus scan is picking up everythinga at the present moment. i installed the virus scan software on each drive and it still all got infected. anyways thatnks for the idea though

You were on the right track, but as I stated earlier
you need to run your emergency boot disk.
Read this (http://service2.symantec.com/SARC/sarc.nsf/html/W95.Spaces.html). Pay particular attention to the bottomof the page.
