I just purchased a new PC camera, an Intel PC cam Deluxe USB that is supposed to run on XP. I also enabled the USB ports on my mother board, an Abit KT7A, which has a total of 4 USB ports. Since I don't use them, I disabled the parallel port, one serial port and the onboard raid controller. I then went into the bios and set the resources assigned by to manual but I left plug and play os installed set to yes. I now have 8 devices using IRQ 7 and I have 2, 3, 5, 9 & 11 free but no way to assign these IRQ's to devices. on top of that the camera on the USB port is fuctional for less than 30 seconds and only after a reboot. Here is my IRQ table, is there any way to get this cleaned up and functioning properly so I can get the camera working?

Are you using win2000 drivers for the device? Are there other drivers, and do other USB devices work?

It is not a problem to have all that on one IRQ in Win2000. It's common for all PCI devices + video + USB to share an IRQ; this isn't abnormal or anything to worry about -- Win2K is quite good with IRQ sharing.

Best bet is to look for updated USB drivers, or updated device drivers. The IRQ sharing is unlikely to be a problem.

I'm using WindowsXP, I haven't looked for any updated drivers, so far everythings used the default drivers native to XP and worked wonderfully. Will go look for updated drivers now.

Thanks

this may or may not work for your system but it is worth to try.. Asus boards have a setting in the bios Legacy USB if enabled Win2K and also WinXp goes crazy..If you have a setting in your bios like that one then make sure that it is set to bDISBALED..

The reason I think that you get all those IRQ on IRQ steering - as it is called - is because you may have PNP OS set to enabled in the bios - set this one also to DISABLED - this will reassign the IRQ by the hardware - much better than have Windows do it...
