View Full Version : autoload programs or folders at start up
Where do you select/delete programs or folders to open at start up??
(I know how to choose what loads in selective startup in
msconfig).
Other than MSCONFIG, you can check start->programs->startup and either drag into or delete stuff. There's also a program that can do it for you. It's Start up Control Panel
Hope this helps
thanks Leef.
I'm not sure I'm wording this correctly. Here's what I want to change:
When (a friends) computer starts up, the desktop comes up and the folder for "My Computer" opens. He would like to eliminate this. Instead, he would like to have the program "Quicken" open automatically (not just appear in the systray)...he has a pc that he only uses for the bookkeeping of a small convenience store...and would like to have the program auto-open to save himself a step. Somehow while changing some other settings he inadvertently changed the way the desktop opens. He used to have Quicken open, now "My Computer" opens...can't figure out how he originally set it up (neither can I)....

This sounds exactly like the same problem I've got at the moment, which is driving me nuts. Every time my computer boots it's as if it's somehow been instructed to go in to My Computer and open up the C: Drive. :(
I'd love to know if you, or anybody, manages to solve this problem.

read [opening desktop] post, mr wobble.
well, we solved the problem, I'm not sure why. When I opened the startup folder, all I found was a shortcut to Quicken. My friend claims he disabled the "startup" option within the program somewhere...this is when "my computer" replaced Quicken at startup. By simply removing the shortcut to Quicken, and rebooting, the problem was solved. Don't completely understand why, but then there are millions of things I don't understand about Windows......
thanks all for your help
